Tenor Maximilian Mayer was born in Regensburg, Germany.
He completed his vocal studies under Peter Edelmann cum laude at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
Since 2023, he has been working as a freelance tenor and made his Wagner debut as Froh at the Staatstheater Kassel in April. In the 24/25 season, he is set to debut as Cervantes in Johann Strauss's operetta "Das Spitzentuch der Königin" at the Theater an der Wien.
During the 23/24 season, Maximilian performed as Camille de Rosillon in "The Merry Widow" at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. He reprised the role in December at the Oper Köln and is scheduled to perform it again in May 2024 at the Vereinigten Bühnen Bozen.
He made his debut at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich in May 2015 as Valentin in the Hervé operetta „Le petit Faust“. From 2016 till 2023 he was a soloist in the company of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, where he appeared as the title role in Candide,as Don Ottavio („Don Giovanni“), Ferrando („Così fan tutte“) and Tamino („The Magic Flute“), among others. He also performed Tamino at the Oper Leipzig, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Theater Dortmund, and Staatstheater Kassel.
In 2025, the tenor will make his debut in France, taking on again the role of Tamino at the Opéra de Rennes and Angers Nantes Opéra.
Further engagements have taken him to various opera houses, including the Semperoper Dresden, Theater Kiel, Theater Heidelberg, Theater Koblenz, Lehár Festival Bad Ischl, Operklosterneuburg, and Seefestspiele Mörbisch.
In September 2015 he won not only first prize in the musicals and operetta division but also the audience choice prize and the special prize for the best interpretation of a Viennese Lied at the Heinrich Strecker Cross-Over Competition.
